Tour the historic buildings and grounds of the Soldiers’ Home.
On August 29th from 10:30 am – 2:00 pm, the historic grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home will be open to the public, free of charge, for a day of celebration and entertainment. This program is presented by the Armed Forces Retirement Home, in partnership with President Lincoln’s Cottage and Friends of Soldiers’ Home, in celebration of the newly constructed Scott Building.
Tour historic buildings and grounds rarely open to the public, including the Sherman Tower (pictured above), the Governors’ Quarters, and the General Winfield Scott monument.* Watch ceremonial military performances. Listen to a live band and enjoy carnival games, military displays, and food from local vendors including DC Reynolds and Captain Cookie and the Milk Man.
*Tours begin every half hour starting at 10:30 am, and run for approximately one hour. The last tour begins at 2:00 pm. No registration is required to attend this program.
