President Lincoln’s Cottage Receives $320,000 in Federal Funding for Improvements

Washington, D.C.- President Lincoln’s Cottage today announces that it is embarking on important capital improvements at this National Monument and historic site. The project will be funded in part by a grant from the Historic Preservation Fund, as administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior as part of the fiscal year 2024 government funding bill. This request was facilitated by Senators Van Hollen and Cardin of Maryland and will improve access to the site, protect historic preservation already undertaken, and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

As part of the project, deteriorating gravel pathways surrounding the Cottage and an aging wheelchair lift will be replaced. In the adjacent Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, new electrical panels and LED exhibit lighting will both modernize building infrastructure and result in cost savings over time.

These improvements will benefit each of the approximately 35,000 visitors who visit this important Lincoln site every year, the majority of whom reside in the DC Metro area.

“We are delighted for this opportunity to improve the visitor experience, expand our access, and connect more people with the story of the Lincolns,” said CEO & Executive Director of President Lincoln’s Cottage Callie Hawkins.
