The new exhibition “A Deep and Subtle Expression: Lincoln in Sculpture – Works from National Trust Collections” opens today, Friday, July 4th at 9:30 a.m. The exhibition is located in the Special Exhibit Gallery on the main floor of the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center at President Lincoln’s Cottage. The exhibition will be open daily through December 19, 2008, during regular visitor hours.
Features include a cast of Lincoln’s hand by L. W. Volk and study sculptures for the Lincoln Memorial. The collections come from various National Trust Historic Sites including Woodrow Wilson House, Villa Finale, Chesterwood Estate & Museum, and President Lincoln’s Cottage. The exhibition explores how artists and manufacturers have attempted to convey the soul of Lincoln through sculpture and statuary since Lincoln’s lifetime.
