On Friday, December 12, the staff at President Lincoln’s Cottage, a National Trust Historic Site, 
hosted a holiday reception for the residents and staff of the Armed Forces Retirement Home (the campus on which the Cottage is located). The Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, bedecked with holiday wreaths, garlands, and bows, was the site for the festivities.
President Lincoln’s Cottage staff, wearing North Pole-inspired elf hats, welcomed AFRH guests and served refreshments of coffee, apple cider, cupcakes, and cookies. While enjoying snacks and beverages and listening to the festive music of a classical guitarist, guests wandered through the exhibit galleries, chatting with staff and friends. Historical interpreters screened the tour orientation film and conducted small group tours of the Cottage.
The Museum Shop, well stocked with gifts for all ages, offered a special holiday discount to all partygoers and “elves” were on hand to assist residents and AFRH staff with their selections.
This event is one of a series offered throughout the year by President Lincoln’s Cottage to thank the AFRH staff and residents for their continued support in letting the National Trust for Historic Preservation manage the Cottage for the public.
