Why did the Lincolns come to live at Soldiers’ Home? Who did Abe see on his daily commute? Did Lincoln support D.C. Emancipation? These are a handful of questions explored in the brand new exhibits at President Lincoln’s Cottage visitor center. One exhibit looks at how Lincoln used the Soldiers’ Home to relax and work, a private location to spend time with his family or meet with allies and adversaries. Other exhibits on site look back at the history of the Soldiers’ Home, the changing face of Civil War Washington, the daily life of Abe, Mary, and Tad, and the preservation of the National Monument.
Yesterday, staff and designers visited the fabrication shop to see the finished exhibits before they are shipped to President Lincoln’s Cottage for installation. Here’s a sneak peak!
