Join President Lincoln’s Cottage and the Armed Forces Retirement Home on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Lincoln family’s first season at the Soldiers’ Home. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the Lincolns’ Cottage as they once did through an array of activities and demonstrations. Perfect for family members of all ages!
Observe a Civil War Encampment: View the 150th Pennsylvania Volunteers, better known as the Bucktails, who served as Lincoln’s personal guards. 10 am – 3 pm
Make Your Own Lincoln Top Hat: Discover the secrets Lincoln held in his top hat and make your own! 10 am – 3 pm
View The Emancipation Proclamation: A rare, signed copy of the Emancipation Proclamation will be on display, starting September 22. 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Listen to Traditional Tunes: Listen to the Washington Revels’ Jubilee Voices perform a variety of African-American songs and spoken word, including spirituals, shouts, hollers, songs of struggle and freedom, field calls, planting songs, and others. 1:30-3:00 pm
Play at the Petting Zoo: Ride ponies, chase peacocks, and get to know the animals at a petting zoo with Tad Lincoln’s favorite pets. Pony rides are first come, first served. 11 am – 1 pm
Enjoy a Picnic: Local vendors will be on site selling fresh food, or pack your own picnic and enjoy the ample space on the grounds. 10 am – 3 pm
Tour The Cottage: First tour – 10:00am, last tour – 3:00pm regular price
