On January 14, 2016, President Lincoln’s Cottage welcomed Harold Holzer to a Cottage Conversation to discuss his new book, A Just and Generous Nation: Abraham Lincoln and the Fight for American Opportunity. Holzer, who co-authored the book with Norton Garfinkle, hit on a wide range of topics: Woodrow Wilson’s progressive ideals vs. his moves to racially segregate the government, Confederate monuments, Lincoln’s economic ideology spurring parts of his anti-slavery rhetoric, and much more prompted by the discussion with the audience.
