On January 1, 2016, President Lincoln’s Cottage officially became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We remain affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, but operations and governance are wholly separate. We are responsible for all preservation and programming at the site. Your support has been invaluable in our transition to independence and will remain essential to our ongoing success.
Below is an explanation for how this change affects your membership.
BEFORE 2016
Membership with President Lincoln’s Cottage:
the Cottage retained most of the funds for the stewardship of the site.
Membership with the National Trust:
NO portion of this membership went to the Cottage.
2016 and BEYOND
Membership with President Lincoln’s Cottage:
the Cottage will retain ALL of the funds for the stewardship of the site.
Membership with the National Trust:
NO portion of this membership went to the Cottage.
