James Oakes, Professor of History at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and 2013 Lincoln Prize winner, explored emancipation and the end of slavery in his new book, Freedom National: The Destruction of Slavery in the United States, 1861-1865. On Thursday, March 21st Professor Oakes discussed his research at Cottage Conversations, a lecture series held at President Lincoln’s Cottage. Watch a video of the event (below).
