One hundred days passed between Lincoln’s preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, issued on September 22nd, 1862, and the final decree on January 1st, 1863. Louis Masur, Professor of American Studies and History at Rutgers University, focuses on that transformative period in his newest book, Lincoln’s Hundred Days.
