David M. Rubenstein, managing director of The Carlyle Group, recently purchased a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Lincoln for $2.1 million dollars and loaned it to President Lincoln’s Cottage. The Huffington Post reported on the display.
WASHINGTON — There’s a few short days to see the original Emancipation Proclamation, going on view at the National Archives for its 150th anniversary.
The Abraham Lincoln-signed copy of that document bought by David Rubenstein, managing director of The Carlyle Group, for $2.1 million earlier this year will be available to the public a little longer than that.
Rubenstein’s copy — one of 48 “authorized editions” that Lincoln signed in 1864, to be sold at the Philadelphia Great Central Sanitary Fair — will be shown at President Lincoln’s Cottage through the end of April 2013.
