Last week, staff members of President Lincoln’s Cottage attended the Presidential Sites and Libraries Conference in Charlottesville, Virginia. Hosted by the Miller Center at the University of Virginia, this year’s theme was “Renewing Ideals and Engaging the Public.” The conference brought together a national group of scholars, historians, and presidential site staffs to learn about each other’s programs and initiatives. President Lincoln’s Cottage was one of the sponsors of the conference. George Rogers, Director of Development at President Lincoln’s Cottage, was a discussant in one of the conference’s breakout sessions on visitor centers. He discussed the reuse of an administrative building at the Armed Forces Retirement Home for the creation of the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, which currently holds exhibits, the museum store, and educational and special event space.
