A free lecture on April 16, 2009, featuring Dr. Blaine V. Houmes, M.D. will examine the myths and mysteries of the Lincoln assassination.
Dr. Houmes is an emergency physician and former medical examiner. His published work has investigated the life of President Lincoln, his health, and the medical aspects of his assassination. On April16th, Dr. Houmes will present a lecture addressing the oft-debated questions.
-Could Lincoln have survived with modern medical care?
-Did Lincoln’s doctors harm or help him?
-Why were there no guards at Ford’s Theatre?
-Was John Wilkes Booth really behind the plot to kill Abraham Lincoln?
-Did John Wilkes Booth actually escape after Lincoln’s assassination?
The lecture will be held in conjunction with a major exhibition entitled “Abraham Lincoln in New York: A Rail Splitter Bicentennial Celebration.” Guests are encouraged to come early to enjoy the exhibit, which features never-before-seen artifacts, documents and historical memorabilia telling the Lincoln story. “Abraham Lincoln in New York” is located at Federal Hall, the historic location where George Washington took his oath of office, just across the street from the New York Stock Exchange at Broad and Wall Street. The exhibit is open to the public through June 30, 2009. Federal Hall will be kept open until 8:30pm on this special Thursday evening to enable after-hours visitors.
