Washington, D.C. – On the week of April 14-18, President Lincoln’s Cottage will be offering local families looking to “staycation” during the school holidays, lots of kid-friendly activities to keep the knowledge flowing.
The week will kick off with a special “Spring Break” kids’ concert on Monday April 14 at 10:30am with a performance by the iconic band Rocknoceros. This is part of a “Monday Funday” series encouraging young children and their caregivers to connect and relax over music.
Each day at noon, the Cottage will be holding a “family tour,” a version of their award-winning signature Cottage tour geared specifically towards children. Families can also enjoy the Cottage’s landscape tour, Lincoln’s Wild Home, a self-guided meditative experience that allows visitors to follow a map and explore the grounds surrounding the Cottage.
While the concert and daily tours are ticketed, the “Crafting Connections” room is a complimentary experience that will be open all day for kids to enjoy crafts, puzzles and games.
Families are encouraged to bring picnics and enjoy the beautiful picnic benches behind the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, or to bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the front lawn of the Cottage where there will also be an assortment of lawn games available for public enjoyment (weather permitting).
Spring Break at President Lincoln’s Cottage honors Tad Lincoln, who lived at the Cottage, explored the grounds, learned history from the Bucktail soldiers, and played games with his famous father. “We hope that families will come enjoy the grounds like the Lincolns’ did during the school holiday,” said Associate Director of Interpretation and Public Programming Cameron Walpole.
